As a real estate investor, Brian Hoang enjoys searching for the perfect investment opportunity. He found it in Burien, Washington. Brian and his partners were looking for retail space that would produce a strong return on investment while being large enough to support one of their businesses - the Hong Kong Market. “The real estate opportunity brought us to Burien. It’s been a great investment property while allowing us to expand the Market’s customer base,” said owner Brian Hoang.

With locations in Federal Way and Kent, Brian knew there was a strong demand for their brand of grocery store in King County. Adjacent to Seattle, Burien provided the ideal location for expansion further north. “Our customers come from Auburn, West Seattle, DesMoines and Renton. We are off SW 148th which offers direct access to 1st Avenue, connecting us to customers in Seattle to the north and DesMoines to the south. In addition, 509, 405 and I-5 converge here so customers can reach us from all over King County,” said Brian. “Burien’s accessibility opens up larger markets for us. Plus, with high Asian and Hispanic populations in the area, Hong Kong Market has really grown.”

When asked if he would invest in Burien again, Brian said, “Absolutely. Our real estate investment has done incredibly well.”

As for Hong Kong Market, their unique approach to grocery is part of the draw. Burien residents shop here, but people don’t mind driving from Seattle or Renton for their deli - “it’s one of the best you’ll find with Chinese barbeque, roast duck and pork” or the fresh produce, seafood and meat departments. “Our customers range from mainstream grocery shoppers to Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipinos, to Middle Easterners and Hispanics. We carry a wide range of international food and the freshness of our products makes it worth the drive,” said Brian.

“We’re proud to have a Hong Kong Market in Burien. They meet the needs of our residents and have become a staple destination for King County residents,” said Chris Craig, Economic Developer for the City of Burien. “Brian said it best when describing Burien - the word is “access.” Burien offers retailers a level of access that is unmatched. Because we offer immediate access to three freeways and 1st Avenue, it’s easy to serve customers in a larger geographic area than retailers are used to. More customers equals higher sales volume, so Burien truly is an ideal destination for retail investment.”
